Activities and Projects

Bilingual Theatre Program

The Sul Ross Theatre Program offers a robust bilingual program featuring new works, published plays and acting and production credit in Spanish and English bilingual theatre production. Bilingual plays, such as Lydia and Moises: A Modern-Day Tragedy, are performed each season.

Children's Theatre

The Sul Ross Children's Theatre Project features annually produced children's selections. Featuring productions such as Hamlette, the Children's Theatre Project is geared to children of all ages throughout the Big Bend Region. Children's shows produced during the academic year run in conjunction with an area wide outreach program busing in school-aged children from the entire Southwest Texas region and hosting more than 1,400 children per show. The Children's Theatre productions also take part in the collection of canned goods for the West Texas Food Bank.

Festival of One-Act Plays

Approximately every two years during the spring semester, the program sponsors a collection of one-act plays directed by students in the program. These works include all types of stage theatre and use the talents of other students, faculty, staff and community members as actors, designers and technicians.

Playwriting Festival

In conjunction with biannually offererd playwriting courses, the Sul Ross Theatre program features dark night readings, staged readings and full productions of original works from students, faculty and Texas writers.

Established in 1965, the university and community come together each summer to produce "theatre under the stars."
